Search results are not available intill the first crawl is completed. Any future crawls will replace the current index.
The search box in the design section of your control panel will search against a Spiderline built in database. This is an easy way to test what your results pages look like before you "roll over" to live as well as if you are testing for a site that is not live (or without content).
